Columns and display options

Every Jira field on the site can be a column. The macro recognises the field’s type and shows it the way that type reads best, and the gear on the column’s row, Column options, changes how. The gear appears only for field types that have options.

Options belong to the column, not the field. Picking another field for a column resets its options, and a column saves only the options that differ from the default.

Options by field type

Defaults are shown before any option is changed.

Dates are in the reader’s Atlassian profile language and time zone, with a 24-hour clock. A calendar date, such as a due date, never moves to the day before or after with the time zone.

With Rich text on, a paragraph field keeps its formatting, lists and links, and is never cut. Off, it is one line of plain text.

A URL field links only http, https and mailto addresses. Anything else is shown as text.

Jira Service Management fields

Field Shown by default Options
Request type The request type name Show as: Request type name, Portal status
SLA fields, such as Time to resolution The remaining time, in a pill that turns red once the goal is breached Show: Remaining time, Elapsed time, Goal, Breached or not
Organizations The names, joined Show as: Joined text, Tags; Separator

An SLA pill shows whether its clock is running, paused, met or failed. With no ongoing cycle, it shows the last completed one.

Fields from other apps

Fields added by Forge and Connect apps are shown by the type they declare: text, number, user, group, date or a list of them, with the same options as the Jira fields of that type.

A field that holds an object shows its display name, name, title, value or key, whichever it has, and its whole value as JSON when it has none. Two options pick out one part of it:

  • Property path: a dotted path into the value, with list positions as numbers, such as amount or items.0.name. Empty shows the whole value.
  • Format: Text or JSON.

One field in several columns

A field can be used in any number of columns, each with its own options: an SLA shown once as remaining time and once as breached or not, or an Assets field shown once by label and once by an attribute. Jira is asked for the field once, whatever the number of columns.

Limits

  • No column sorts. The order is the JQL query’s ORDER BY.
  • An object field from another app may ignore Property path. When its value has a name, the page shows the name, even though the configuration offered the option.
  • The Separator of Subtasks has no effect. The keys are always joined the same way.
  • Work item colour is a neutral lozenge with the colour’s name, not the colour.
  • Exports show every column with the same options, as text: icons, avatars and progress bars become words and numbers. See export, page history and email.
